Accountants for Roofers

Written and reviewed by the Roofer Accountants editorial team. Last reviewed 29 July 2026.

We act for self-employed roofers: the tax return, the bookkeeping, and the CIS refund most subcontractor roofers are owed and never fully claim. One firm that understands the trade and how you are actually paid.

Everything is a fixed fee, agreed in writing before any work starts. No hourly billing, no charge for a question, and nothing taken until you approve the quote.

What We Handle

Registration with HMRC and CIS, your Self Assessment return, and the bookkeeping that feeds it. We total up the CIS deducted across the year, claim every expense a roofing round runs up, and get you the refund you are owed.

As you grow we handle the next steps: VAT and the reverse charge, the move to a limited company, and Making Tax Digital as it reaches you.

Where a Roofer's Tax Is Different

Two things set a roofer apart from an ordinary sole trader: CIS and the expense-heavy trade. CIS means 20% is taken before you see it, so the whole job is to prove your real tax is lower and get the difference back. The expenses, van, tools, scaffold, materials, protective wear, are what make that gap, so a rushed return quietly costs you money.

This is the day-to-day work here. We build the return around how a roofer is paid and what it costs to do the work, so nothing that grows your refund is left off.

How It Runs

You send your CIS statements, invoices and receipts, in a single list rather than a chain of texts. We do the work, show you the numbers and the refund before anything is filed, and submit once you are happy. Anti-money-laundering identity checks come first, as at any UK firm.

Take just the annual return and refund, or the bookkeeping through the year as well, which makes the refund easier to get right and Making Tax Digital a non-event when it lands.

What It Costs

A fixed fee, quoted before we begin, based on what your situation needs. A straightforward CIS refund return is at the lower end; add VAT, a company or gross payment status and it costs more, and we tell you which you are first.

To get a price, tell us about your roofing work and we will come back with a fixed quote and a deadline.

Common questions

Will you get me a CIS refund?

Where you are owed one, yes, and most subcontractor roofers are. We total the CIS deducted, claim every expense to find your real tax, and the overpaid difference is refunded through your Self Assessment return.

I have never claimed my expenses properly. Can you help?

Yes, and it is where roofers lose the most. We make sure the van, tools, scaffold, materials and protective wear are all claimed, which lowers your real tax and increases the refund you get back.

Can you sort several years I have not filed?

Yes. We can bring past years up to date and claim the CIS refunds you were owed on them, subject to HMRC's time limits. Send us what you have and we will tell you where you stand.

How much do you charge?

A fixed fee agreed before any work starts, scaled to your situation. Tell us about your roofing work and we will give you a firm price and a deadline, with nothing charged until you approve it.

Get a fixed fee before any work starts

Tell us whether you are a sole-trader roofer or a roofing firm, and what is outstanding: your CIS refund, the returns, the VAT, or a deadline with HMRC. We come back with a fixed price and the date it has to be finished by.
